Dental exam and clean

At Sandringham Dental Practice, we prioritise our patient’s oral hygiene and early prevention of dental diseases. During your appointment with us, we comprehensively examine your mouth and teeth for signs of potential issues and areas to monitor. Hard calcified deposits called calculus (tartar) can buildup on teeth, which can’t be cleaned with regular teeth brushing at home. Our dentists will gently use an ultrasonic scaling instrument to remove the build-up and polish the teeth to remove any stains. X-rays are generally needed to check for cavities in between the teeth but these are only taken every 2-3 years.

Gum disease

Gum Disease is primarily caused by the accumulation of plaque (a sticky film of bacteria) and calculus on the teeth. Gum disease can range from mild inflammation (gingivitis) to more severe conditions that can lead to damage to the soft tissues and bone supporting the teeth, leading to teeth becoming loose over time (periodontitis).

We recommend our patients book in for six-monthly routine check-up and cleans to maintain good oral health.

Dental Restorations

Our dentists use restorative materials such as composite resin to repair and restore teeth that have been damaged by decay or fractures. Dental fillings are designed to restore the function, integrity, and aesthetics of a tooth by filling in cavities and preventing further decay.

Our dentists will use specialised handpieces and instruments to clean out the decay and choose the most appropriate restorative material to restore your tooth. The choice of material depends on factors such as the size, condition and location of the cavity. At Sandringham Dental Practice, our dentist’s will discuss the pros and cons of each material for you to decide which option is optimal in terms of retention and durability. Regular dental check-ups are essential to monitor the condition of restorations and ensure we can identify issues before they become unrestorable.
