Strength and Aesthetics
Crown & Bridge
Dental crowns are full coverage restorations which could be thought of like a helmet for your tooth! Dental crowns are usually recommended in cases where teeth are heavily restored, cracked or root canal treated. Bridges are an option if you have a missing tooth: a crown placed on the teeth adjacent to a gap, with a connected tooth spanning the missing space.
Crowns are made from a selection of high strength ceramics or gold alloys. Your dentist will select the most appropriate material for your crown, taking into consideration aesthetic, strength, and bonding requirements.
Crowns require 2 appointments, usually 2 weeks apart. The dentist prepares the affected tooth by removing any decayed or damaged portions and reshaping it to accommodate the crown. Impressions or scans of the prepared tooth and adjacent teeth are taken to ensure a precise fit. A temporary crown is placed while the permanent one is being fabricated in a dental laboratory.
Once the permanent crown is ready, the dentist affixes it securely onto the prepared tooth using dental cement. Careful attention is given to aligning the crown with the natural bite, ensuring proper functionality and comfort.
At Sandringham Dental we are equipped with the latest digital scanning technology to make the process more efficient and pleasant for the patient.
