Digital Dentistry

Sandringham Dental Practice is equipped with an intraoral 3D scanner, enabling us to offer treatment advancements utilising the latest in dental technology. The teeth and mouth can be scanned with unparalleled accuracy, while the advanced software creates a digital 3D model on the computer. This technology has become a valuable tool, offering an alternative to traditional physical impressions. The digital model is analysed, and a suitable prosthetic designed on the digital model (Computer Aided Design). Crowns are milled from a block of ceramic, while models, surgical guides and a variety of other devices are often 3D printed (Computer Aided Manufacturing).

Digitally planned implant surgery
Using specialised software, we can analyse the CBCT (3D x-ray) and 3D scan of your teeth to plan the optimal placement of dental implants. The software allows for precise measurement of bone dimensions, assessment of bone quality, and simulation of implant placement scenarios. Based on the virtual treatment plan, a surgical guide is designed digitally to assist in implant placement. By simulating the surgery in advance, we can anticipate challenges and plan accordingly, leading to more predictable results.

Digitally designed crowns and bridges

Digital dentistry allows for crowns and bridges that are designed on a digital model of your teeth. A milling machine will then carve out the crown or bridge from a solid monolithic block of dental ceramic. Digital dentistry allows us to detect issues with the design of your crown/bridge prior to fabrication as we can see it in great detail on the computer screen.
