Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment is highly effective in saving a tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted due to infection or damage. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed, it can cause severe pain and may lead to the formation of an abscess if not treated promptly. Treatment involves removal of the diseased pulp of the tooth and disinfection of the root canals to remove bacteria and debris. A medicated dressing is placed inside to allow the tooth to heal. This generally eliminates the pain from the infected tooth. Treatment is performed with local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort.
